Sagging skin in your neck area can be due to a variety of factors, including aging, gravity, environmental conditions and stress. When fat under your chin is hereditary, losing weight will not solve the issue. Younger patients may benefit from liposuction to remove fatty tissue under the chin because their tissues have the elasticity to conform to a new, more slender neck contour.
Older patients may benefit from a neck lift. A neck lift is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the jawline and neck, such as:
- Loose neck skin
- Excess fatty deposits under the chin
- Muscle banding in the neck
- Excess fat and skin relaxation in the lower face that creates jowls
Procedures that can be performed in conjunction with a neck lift, include a brow lift to correct a sagging or deeply furrowed brow; fat transfer to add fullness to the lips and cheeks and reduce the appearance of wrinkles; and eyelid surgery to rejuvenate aging eyes.
Non-surgical rejuvenation treatments cannot achieve the same results as a neck lift but may help delay the time when a neck lift becomes appropriate. If you aren’t ready for a full facelift but are bothered by excess wrinkling of the neck skin, a “turkey wattle” or double chin, and jowl lines, a neck lift may be a good solution.
