Last year, patients received more than 17 million plastic surgeries and minimally-invasive cosmetic procedures, according to the America Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS).
Therefore, it’s safe to say these procedures don’t carry the stigma that they once did.
So whether you’re looking for a simple nip and tuck or the full Melania, here are five of the hottest plastic surgery trends if you’re considering going under the knife.
1. Fat Grafting Is In
Why let the good fat go to waste? That seems to be the mantra as more patients are opting — and doctors recommending — procedures where fat removed during liposuction is used to “fill in” other parts of the body the patient wants to be augmented.
The procedure is most commonly used on areas like the buttocks and breasts. Fat grafting used for butt augmentation rose 26 percent in the past year, according to the ASPS report.
2. Breast Augmentation Is Getting More Popular
Breast augmentation is the reigning king of cosmetic surgery, up four percent year over year.
There were more than 290,000 breast surgeries last year, meaning you’re in good company if you’re thinking about taking the leap.
Fat grafts are also becoming popular here as an alternative to traditional implants. Use of fat graft for this purpose are up a whopping 72 percent.
3. Botox Is Still Hot
Where minimally invasive surgery is concerned, use of Botulinum Toxin Type A, a.k.a “Botox” is commonplace.
The 7 million Botox treatments performed in 2016 were up four percent from the previous year.
With each round of Botox treatment costing on average between $350 and $500, it’s also one of the more affordable procedures out there.
The treatment isn’t just for removing wrinkles around your eyes, forehead, and mouth, either.
Botox can be also be used for more esoteric purposes such as helping treat acne and reduce excessive sweating.
4. Face-Related Surgery Is on the Rise
Botox aside, facial surgeries are on the rise generally.
For a minute, back in the heyday of 2015, facelift procedures actually dropped off the list of top plastic surgery tends. But these operations surged back last year.
Surgical lifts to the face, chin, and neck up four percent with more than 131,000 facelifts performed, ASPS data shows.
5. More Women Are Getting Labiaplasty
Yes, that’s right. Labiaplasty — surgery to alter the appearance of the labia — is one of the hottest new plastic surgery trends.
The procedure typically involves some sculpting, lifting, and/or injecting fat into the area.
There were over 12,000 of these procedures last year, representing a 39 percent increase over the previous year.
Why so suddenly popular?
As cosmetic surgery itself becomes more destigmatized, patients are having longer-term relationships with their surgeons. Therefore, they may be more comfortable discussing changes to parts of their body they wouldn’t otherwise, experts speculate.
